Diamonds In The Rough

Posted by | 10-10-2018

It is worthwhile to read online articles and to learn new information or interesting facts, anecdotes, and personal stories. The article “Grandmother Finds 2.63 Carat Diamond at Arkansas Park” by Rob Bates from JCKonline is a feel-good story about a woman who finds a 2.63 carat diamond at Crater Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro, Arkansas. It is a good story because it offers hope that sometimes when you least expect it great finds happen. And further, we all enjoy being recognized for what happens and for what we do. Although Crater of Diamonds State Park allows visitors to dig for diamonds, it is the search and the potential reward that encourages people to visit in the hope of finding something precious. So how does such an article connect to employee service awards you may ask? Well, in short, digging throughout the day to find a diamond is like working at a company and being recognized   for your achievements, productivity, and value. Both digging for diamonds and working hard have their rewards. And even if you don’t find a diamond on the first visit, there are opportunities to return to potentially reap the benefit of your labour; not unlike that of working for a company and eventually being recognized for years of dedication and service. The diamonds symbolize the employee service awards in places like Vaughan, North York, and Toronto. Employee service recognition programs strengthen relationships within businesses and create a mutual respect among employers and employees. The article stated that “one out of every five diamonds found at the park, including several that set records, is found right on top of the ground, since the park personnel regularly plow the diamond search area to loosen the soil. Diamonds area bit heavy for their size and lack static electicity, so dirt doesn’t stick to them; they can sparkle and be easy to see in the sunlight” (JCKonline.com). As cliche as it may sound, if you allow your employees to “sparkle” and shine, they will perform to the best of their abilities. Implementing an employee service recognition program can make a significant difference to the well-being of employees and the productivity of a company.
